Genesys in China

Matt Armstrong and Steve Chesters recently attended the Chinese Desalination Association conference on desalination and water reuse in Qingdao.

With 100 papers presented, 50 exhibitors and 900 delegates, this was a big conference, but the whole event ran like clockwork.

Guo Yohzi, head of the association, explained the future of the Chinese desalination market to an already convinced audience. The Chinese government has a plan to invest RMB200 billion ($31billion) in desalination to meet national water demand, which is set to grow by 63% by 2030. DesalData predict that the Chinese membrane market will be the largest in the world in five years’ time.

Steve Chesters also presented a paper on ten years of membrane autopsy results, with our dear old friend KS Boo doing simultaneous translations. Although we looked a bit like a karaoke duo I think we got the message across and it seemed to be well received.

Our stand with partners Shanghai Hantech, one of China’s biggest water treatment component manufacturers and suppliers, was inundated with enquiries and people picking up our Chinese language brochure.
